At Darwin Group we believe that above anything else investors need absolute returns from their investments.

We are therefore committed to providing genuine outcome driven solutions to investors.

This may seem obvious but for the greatest part of the fund management industry this is not what drives them.

Historically, investors have relied heavily on equities and to some degree corporate bonds. This was a strategy that led to excessive volatility and ultimately poor returns.

Investment management firms have focused on inputs, primarily considering traditional assets and obsessed with beating an artificial benchmark at the expense of client returns.

Most fund managers are constrained by adherence to benchmarks, (where risk is defined as deviation from the benchmark). At Darwin Group we recognise the value of considering only client risks and returns.

Our products will provide a genuine alternative. They will be based on sound investment ideas and offer investors significant returns over the long term.

DARWIN LEISURE PROPERTY FUND

The Darwin Leisure Property Fund - launched in January 2008, invests solely in Caravan Parks in the UK with a view to making annualised returns of between 10 - 15% through a combination of income and capital growth. The fund yields 6% (net to investors) and is the only fund that is a pure investment play on the industry. Since the launch, the fund has delivered a total return in excess of 23%.

TM DARWIN MULTI ASSET FUND

The Darwin Multi Asset Fund targets a broad range of cautious investors building on David Jane's long term track record in multi asset investing with a focus on capital preservation in difficult markets, with the aim of delivering attractive long-term returns.

OUR PEOPLE Anthony Esse - Chief Executive Anthony Esse has worked in the investment management profession for twenty five years and held directorships with Hermes, Newton (Mellon Group) and GT Management plc. At both Newton and Hermes he built up a third party business designing and offering products to global pension funds that leveraged from the core competencies that both companies held. The operating profits grew from zero to £17m. He was involved in the acquisition of MEPC plc, the joint venture between Hermes and GE Capital.In 2003 Anthony set up The Darwin Group, a strategic consulting boutique which provided investors with strategic research into how major quoted companies competed and created shareholder value and helped smaller quoted companies raise long-term capital directly from internally managed pension funds.In 2007 Anthony set up Darwin Property Investment Management Ltd.Anthony holds the Investment Management Certificate and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.David Jane - Fund Manager David Jane joined the Darwin group in September 2010. He has more than 23 years’ experience in investment management. He was previously Head of Equities Investments at M&G.David joined M&G in December 2000 as a Fund Manager in the global specialist equity team. He served as Head of Equities Investments and Portfolio Manager at M&G Managed Fund and M&G Cautious Multi Asset Fund, which he launched in February 2007 and grew to over £300 million during his tenure.Prior to M&G, David was the Head of Global Financials Research at Axa Investment Management. Prior to Axa, he was at Newton Investment Management as Director of Global Financials Research. He also served as a Non Executive Director of M&G High Income Investment Trust plc from October 2002 to July 2010.David graduated with a B.A. Honours in Statistics and Economics.James Penney - ChairmanJames is the owner and Managing Director of Darwin Consulting, a strategy consulting firm he co-founded in 1997. Darwin provides strategic advice to directors and investors in a range of industries, including financial services, private equity and media.More recently James helped set up The Darwin Group, a business which provides investors with strategic research into how major quoted companies compete and create shareholder value and help smaller quoted companies raise long-term capital directly from internally managed pension funds.Prior to founding Darwin, James had an academic career, which included undergraduate and postgraduate research at Trinity College, Cambridge, followed by six years as Principal Lecturer at Westminster College, Oxford. After Oxford, James was a Sloan Fellow at London Business School from which he has an MSc in Management Studies.Tapan Bhatt - Investment AssociateAt Darwin Property Investment Management, Tapan is primarily responsible for conducting investment research and due diligence on new acquisitions for the fund as well as liaising with operating company to ensure optimal performance of portfolio properties.Prior to joining Darwin, Tapan worked at Mercury Partners, a real estate hedge fund/private equity covering the real estate markets of India, Russia, Australia, Turkey and Vietnam as well as US industrial, healthcare and net-lease real estate companies. Earlier, Tapan worked as an Analyst at Bank of America's Real Estate Investment Banking Division where amongst many M&A deals, he advised Blackstone on its acquisition of Equity Office Properties for $39 billion - the then largest LBO and CMBS deal ever. Tapan holds a Bachelors degree from Rutgers University and an MBA from London Business School.Mike Lonkhurst - Sales ManagerMike’'s role encompasses IFA clients, wealth managers and partnerships, where he is responsible for sales and client servicing.Following 15 years in client facing roles globally within the airline industry Mike joined Darwin as Sales Manager in April 2011. He was educated at Dame Alice Owen's School, Hertfordshire and British Aerospace Flying College, Prestwick.Barbara Bate - PA to the Chief ExecutiveBarbara joined Darwin after working for many years at senior Director level at the HQ of Smiths Group plc, an international FTSE 100 company and provides full administrative support to the Chief Executive and Directors as well as being responsible for the smooth running of the office generally.Christopher Tabor - Non-Executive DirectorChristopher is a senior real estate executive with over 26 years experience in both the UK corporate and investment property markets. Christopher was a senior director at ING Real Estate Investment Management. During his tenure at ING he was head of Fund Launches, Head of Retail Investor Marketing and Sales and responsible for one of the UK's largest residential real estate funds. He has successfully raised over £1billion for ING property funds. Christopher holds Bsc (Hons) Land Management from University of Reading.Peter Isard - Non-Executive DirectorPeter is the Head of Institutional Equities at Cenkos Securities, which he joined, shortly after its inception, in 2005. Prior to developing in the Cenkos institutional business, Peter had worked for over 20 years in financial markets at such firms as Merrill Lynch, Schroders and Citigroup. During that time he has been both an analyst specialising in leisure companies and a general salesman providing advice to portfolio managers responsible for pension funds, retail funds and hedge funds. Peter holds a Bachelors degree in History and French from Oxford.
